The best electric bike money can buy
Going green has never been bigger. However, when it comes to transportation, we’re held back by cheap and easy options we can switch to. That’s why Electric bikes are such a fantastic option. But don’t rush out to buy the first one you see – you should have a basic understanding of electric bikes to select the best electric bike for your needs.
An electric bike has an integrated electric motor supplying it power for movement. The range of electric bikes is quite vast and start from bicycles with a motor to assist pedaling all the way up to powerful machines that emulate a standard moped. The key difference between an electric bike and an electric motorcyle is the functional pedals that an electric bike has, but a motorcycle does not.
The Jetson Electric Bike is what we consider the best electric bike going around as of now. It’s a great option for those looking to do their bit for the environment and save money on outrageous gas prices too.
My favorite aspect of the Jetson is that it does not look like an electric bicycle — It looks a lot more like an electric motorcycle, which it is NOT.
What I love about the Jetson electric bike is both the simplicity of its layout and features and the fact that it doesn’t look like a bicycle. It feels zippy and peppy to drive although the top speed is limited to 20 miles/hour (32 kilometers/hour). It has a range of about 40 miles per full charge.
It weighs about 125 lbs with the batter installed.
It comes in twelve colors — black, white, silver, pink, blue, red, green, lime green, neon yellow, neon purple, hot pink and neon green.
It has advanced lithium ion technology – the most energy efficient electric charge. The company claims that you can travel for about 1000 miles for a little over a Dollar. With that kind of cost saving, this baby will pay for itself in no time. I can’t verify this since it’s impossible to see if each charge costs only 5 cents.
Should you run out of battery juice, you could always start pedaling — you are on an electric bike after all. The great thing about pedaling is that not only are moving ahead in spite of being out of battery, you are actually recharging the battery as you keep pedaling.
Another advantage of an electric bike is the extremely limited maintenance you need to take care of. Unlike a motorcycle or a car, there is no periodic servicing where you need to have oil filters and oil changed. This is also a substantial cost saving in the long run.
The LCD display is pretty good and readable even outdoors in sunlight. It shows you the speed, battery level indicator, light and blinker indicators.
While it can steep hills, you should know that it will slow down the bike. This is due to the motor being kept at 500 W instead of a more powerful one. I presume this is to keep it complaint with laws for classifying this as an electric bike as opposed to an electric moped / motorcycle.
The battery is accessible through the seat storage and is easy enough to remove and carry with you to charge somewhere. This way, you can charge it when you’ve reached a destination. You could also consider buying and carrying a second battery. You can then drive 80 miles instead of the 40 miles you would with a single battery.
Finally, you don’t need a registration, driving license or any of the usual red tape you’d need to have for other vehicles like cars and motor cycles.
Here are some of the features of this electric bike, which are why we consider it the best electric bike money can buy:

- 4 – 5 hours is the time taken to charge the battery on a standard 110V electrical outlet.
- You can travel 40 miles on each charge, which the company approximates cost 5 cents. Thus, you can travel 1,000 miles for a little over $1.

I have to say that this has been a tremendously fun product to review. Trust me – it’s even more fun to drive. You have go to try and buy this. You could give this to teenage children to use as well, although I would NOT recommend giving it to a child under 16 years.
In case you’re looking for more storage options, Jetson Electric Bikes also sells as an add-on a very slick looking lock and storage compartment. With this you can store a lot more than you could in the tiny storage compartment under the seat.
If when you receive this, the battery seems charged, do leave it to charge for the full duration as per the user manual anyway. You don’t want to find yourself stranded and stuck.
